There are dollhouse enthusiasts... they love tiny things and spend hours in their little miniature world! And then there are those of us who wonder what is so special about miniatures?
Here are a hundred different reasons why everyone needs miniature, tiny envelopes at one point or another in their lives. Yup, a hundred, beginning from before you were born. Ok... it should start with your mom, when her friends throw a Baby Shower in anticipation of your arrival into this world.
First of all, paper envelopes have kinda been in use since the invention of paper over 2000 years ago, so that we can write and communicate and have our thoughts delivered to another person. Whether it's by the pony express, by ravens in the GOT realm, or the postman from your local postal service - regular-sized or commercial envelopes exist in most households and will continue to exist in spite of the digital world.
However, when we speak of tiny miniature envelopes, we refer to those that are much, much smaller, too small to be posted in the local postal service. USPS says "To be eligible for mailing at
the price for letters, a piece must be: Rectangular. At least 3-1/2
inches high x 5 inches long x 0.007 inch thick. No more than 6-1/8
inches high x 11-1/2 inches long x 1/4 inch thick."
We have handmade mini color envelopes which measure 2-5/8 inches wide by 1-7/8 inches high. About 68 by 47 mm. These are likely not found, not sold at Walmart or at your local bookstore.
So...here are a hundred different reasons why everyone needs miniature, tiny
envelopes at one point or another in their lives.
Celebrations, parties, big or small events...
The baby shower, the perfect wedding, the bachelorette party - don't we all love to have keepsakes from these events, and have our guests pen their well wishes in a guest book? The wedding guest book with the mini envelopes pasted on the pages is a popular idea!
The baby shower is a time to get gifts, to hang out with close friends, and it's also a time to make memories too, especially for the little one! Get a big (or small) glass jar, have your guests write down tiny notes, advice, hopes and wishes or even a drawing for the baby,
keep all the little envelopes in the glass jar & present it to your
'baby' when he/she goes to 1st grade. Or on their 8th birthday. Or on
their 6th Christmas. Open each teeny weeny envelope with them to read
these notes! Wow!
You can use the 2-5/8" (W) by 1-7/8" (H) mini envelopes or the 1-1/2 " by 1" tiny envelopes for this purpose!
Confetti, seeds, glitter for your guests - yes, we sometimes love to make a mess with colorful confetti or glitter all over the place ar our wild parties. Distribute these in mini envelopes!
At your special event, do you want your guests to take home something special? A homemade candy? Tiny favors can be given out as door gifts or souvenirs in little envelopes.
And then, there are the intimate celebrations with family during hanukkah, Christmas or a birthday. Need place holders for the dining table, with specially made cards for each guest? What about a gift, with a little note attached as a gift tag? Oooh, tiny stocking stuffers for the little ones' stockings - give them a big surprise on Christmas morning!
The Tooth Fairy
Baby teeth start to get loose and fall out from your 3rd birthday onwards. Most of us have 20 baby teeth to sell to the Tooth Fairy. It's best to make sure all 20 are carefully saved and popped into a tiny envelope before it goes under your pillow.
And a polite Tooth Fairy would also take the time to scribble a tiny thank you note, so where's that 1-1/4" by 3/4" super-tiny stationery set for the fairy folk?!
Then, as life gets going...and you have friends...
Making a greeting card special
A greeting card can be embellished with a tiny envelope or two (or three) pasted inside, on the back or the front. The envelope can hold something special - a tiny gift such as a chain, a ring; or fill the envelope with confetti or glitter; or insert a coin!
Sending a thank-you card
Did someone do something special for you? Or is a birthday celebration over? Or saying goodbye to your teacher? Scribble your little thank-you notes, insert in a mini envelope and hand them out. Or perhaps after visiting a friend or relative, quietly leave a thank-you note in a colorful mini envelope on the side table before you say your goodbyes. Let your host find the note in their own time... it'll be such a surprise! It's called The Art of the Surprise Note.
Sending an encouragement note
Life isn't always happy and sunny all the time. When someone you know needs a little encouragement, a quote or an inspirational thought is such a unique idea!
Sending a whole lot of encouragement
Or better... give a jar of smiles! A whole lot of 31 inspirational quotes in a jar, or 100 positive thoughts for your BFF! They can be color coded (red envelopes for song lyrics; yellow envelopes for bible verses; blue envelopes for a shared thought or memory)
Junk journalling and scrapbooks
Making a scrapbook of a special occasion (for example, after a dream trip) is a wonderful way to enjoy and relive those memories. Besides photos and notes, small envelopes can be pasted in your scrapbook to hold the little souvenirs you've collected - ticket stubs, plane boarding passes, concert tickets...
